What Is MHHL?

There’s something about fire trucks – old and new — that captures attention. And that’s why Mile High Hook and Ladder has come to be. Mile High Hook and Ladder Club (MHHL) is the Colorado Chapter of SPAAMFAA, the Society for the Preservation & Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America.

Established in Denver in 1984 by a group of truck buffs who treasure old fire engines, we now have 50 members, up and down the Front Range, from Loveland to Black Forest. Our members own and operate over 40 antique fire trucks. However, you don’t need to own a fire truck to participate in our club! You just need to have an appreciation for all things fire related.

What are MHHL’s Events and Activities?

The club’s main event is our annual Fire Truck Parade and Muster, traditionally held on Father’s Day weekend in Littleton in partnership with South Metro Fire Rescue. Founded almost 40 years ago, this popular free, family-friendly community event begins with a parade of antique and modern fire rescue apparatus down Main Street, followed by a muster (gathering) of the apparatus at Arapahoe Community College.

We conduct monthly meetings throughout the year with interesting fire and emergency-related topics. The club also participates in parades throughout Metro Denver and other events during the spring and summer. We schedule “pump-ins” at least twice a year, which allow our members to pump and spray water from their antique trucks. Members share their expertise on all things mechanical.
